One Room Challenge - Week Three - Girls' Shared Bedroom

Welcome to Week 3 of the One Room Challenge good people. Now we’re getting into the good stuff right? We’re at the halfway mark and the design for our girls shared bedroom is really taking shape. Can you see it? As mentioned before I really want to create a “boho modern boutique” vibe (I feel like every week I add a new term to the description of the room. This week I’ve added “modern” haha). In Week 2 we showed off our thrifted wicker scallop pendant light. Thank you all soooo so much for the overwhelmingly positive responses on the pendant! For this week we started working on the main wall where the beds, toy storage, wallpaper, paint, and new window treatment will go. First up…

Green velvet lampshades … chiiiiild! These lampshades are really a showstopper. I scored them a year ago from At Home for only $7 bucks each. At the time I didn’t know where they would go, but they stopped me in my tracks while shopping, so I knew that they needed to come home with me. I mean, who doesn’t love green AND velvet? Plus, don’t they look SO EFFING GOOD against the blush wallpaper.

Milton & King, you have outdone yourselves. The flora wallpaper in blush is STUNNING! It’s elegant and I appreciate that the color and patterns aren’t too overwhelming. Perfecto for a little girl’s room. If you read last week’s post then you learned that this wasn’t the original wallpaper we planned to use in the room, but luckily for us, I found and fell in love with this pattern the moment I saw it. Even Josh commented that I make good wallpaper choices :)

Honesty hour: I learned about the using-liquid-starch-to-apply-wallpaper trick which basically turns traditional wallpaper into removable wallpaper. So on install day I went to my local Walmart and purchased a bottle of liquid starch to use to apply the wallpaper. The first panel went up without any problems, Boom! Feelin crafty. BUT the second panel would NOT stick to save my life. So I gave up…yup called it quits and went to the garage to get my wallpaper paste. Long story short: One panel is removable haha and the others were installed the traditional way (which worked better for us). By no means is this meant to discourage you from trying the liquid starch hack. I know it’s been successful for others.

Remember how we were looking for the perfect pink paint? I struggled with this and thought I wanted to go bold, but then didn’t like any of the samples I picked. I felt like the bolder pinks were throwing off the entire vibe of the space, so I regrouped and tried out more mauve, berry colors instead. After trying multiple samples I think I finally found thee color - Mythic Mauve by Sherwin Williams. I think the wallpaper and paint color will work well together. At first we were only going to paint the area behind the beds and do a half wallpaper, half paint kind of thing, but I like the color so much that I’m going to carry it over to another wall or two. Ew, this bedroom is trying to convert me into a fan of the color pink. and I rebuke it. * Clutches green lampshades*

The “boho modern boutique” is really starting to take shape...well at least one side of the room is haha. The other side is a completely different story. We still have so much to do in so little time. One of the bigger projects being the custom dresser that Josh’s dad is building. Fingers crossed that it’s done in time for the big reveal.
