One Room Challenge - Week Two - Girls' Shared Bedroom

Welcome to Week 2 of the One Room Challenge! Can you believe we actually made some progress in the room? haha! We repaired some drywall, installed a light fixture, and…be prepared to have your minds blown... even painted the ceiling AND 3 out of 4 walls with a fresh coat of paint too. The sarcasm you read is mainly because Josh and I don’t tend to move quickly when it comes to home projects, but I’m actually enjoying the rush of getting things done quickly and on time. Breaking news: you might just be witnessing the beginnings of a brand new Josalyn people! But I digress. Let’s get back to discussing Week 2.

For the main paint color, I chose Cameo White by Behr Marquee for both the walls and ceiling (BTW I’m team paint the ceiling and walls the same color). Cameo White has a subtle lavender undertone, which I surprisingly don’t mind. It softens the space and since I plan on bringing in pinks, purples, and even some green into the room, I think the lavender undertone will compliment those colors.

We’re still trying to commit to the perfect pink for the main wall, and we may or may not bring this color to the other walls as well. We’re searching for a shade of pink that is somewhat moody, and matches well with the wallpaper we ordered. Speaking of wallpaper, if you’re following along on Instagram then you already know that the wallpaper featured in the Week 1 design plan is unfortunately NOT the wallpaper we’ll be using in the room. I ordered that particular wallpaper in the beginning of September and found out two days before the start of the ORC that it’s on backorder until December. Naturally, this “breaking news” left me falling down the wallpaper rabbit hole, frantically searching for a replacement that I loved just as much, if not more. And guess what? I found it! You’ll have to wait until next week to see it though ;-)

Let’s get into this pendant light though! Can you believe I found this scallop wicker pendant at the thrift store for only $6 BUCKS? It’s in almost perfect condition - the chain just needed some cleaning (I used Bar Keepers Friends Cleaner) and Josh had to do some simple rewiring work, but other than that WALLAH, new light.

I think the wicker pendant will really help pull together the design of the room, which btw I’ve dubbed “boho boutique”. I’ve always wanted to put a ceiling medallion somewhere and felt that adding one here would provide just a bit of extra charm. Plus it hides the repair work we had to do to the ceiling. When we took down the ceiling fan and the ornament (IDK what to call it) that it was attached to, we were left with damage to the drywall and cracks that spread further then the area that the ceiling medallion would cover. We ended up having to do some drywall repair, but thankfully not too much mudding and sanding.

I guess I can only show so many angles of the same pendant right? Haha! We clearly still have quite the list of to-do’s, but the plan for this weekend is to finish touch ups to the ceiling, install the wallpaper, and have the pink paint picked (say that three times fast).
